Regulation (EU) 2023/915 is being updated to make the rules on contaminants in food clearer. These adjustments are listed in regulation (EU) 2024/1756. New rules are introduced for testing for certain substances in cereals, baby food and oat products. It also clarifies the rules for maximum amounts of harmful substances in rice products, animal products and cereal products. Below in tabular form is an overview of the changes effective July 16, 2024.

The European Commission has expressed its intention with the document SANTE PLAN 2023/2345 Rev.2. to amend Regulation (EU) 2023/915 to regulate maximum levels of Mineral Oil Hydrocarbons (MOH) in food. These draft measures are intended to protect public health from the potential harmful effects of MOH, which can occur in food due to contamination from various sources such as machine lubricants, processing aids and environmental sources.

Glyphosate and glufosinate are among the most frequently used herbicides (weed killers) worldwide. While glyphosate has been in the media spotlight for many years, an increase in positive findings for glufosinate has only recently been observed. This also has to do with analytics. Neither glyphosate nor glufosinate can be analyzed using the usual pesticide multi-methods.
